Outskirts are wefts grinded by shortage of real common spaces and interests. Industrial areas in detail are strictly functional places, ladders in the living/serving texture of the city, macroscopic but obscure interruptions. And they’re the set of a daily working transhumance, that slows down and stops every week-end, whenever these parts of the town are forgotten. In this unreal suspension, the noisy nature of the working spots falls off in silence, just broken by some scattered persons like model makers, pensioners looking for edible plants, learners in driving, suspicious secret lovers. If these people and activities build up a different public dimension on one hand, the only common function why the place is made for fades away: a sort of short-circuit that turns on the light on the scenery just for an instant. In this way the industrial site becomes the centre of strong contrasts, and separates buildings from void. “Due/settimi” portrays old and new industrial areas, with their railings and enclosures, empty car-parkings or rows of T.I.R at rest, decorative trees and street-lamps. Specially it shows a sultry stoppage, waiting for all to restart. It is focused on Sassuolo, core of the ceramic tile industry, but potentially it reports the silent standstill of many post-industrial cities.
